This Universal Frequency-to-Digital Converter (UFDC-1M-16) is a fully digital CMOS integrated circuit for use with any sensor or transducer with a frequency, period, duty-cycle, interval, PWM , phase shift or pulse number output. The UFDC-1 is perfectly suited to any applications where frequency-time parameters or sensors output signals need to be measured with highest resolution and programmable accuracy. Non-redundant conversion time. The design is based on novel advanced methods for frequency, period, duty-cycle and phase-shift measurements. By using this IC it is possible to build a variety of digital frequency or counter instruments, smart sensors and intelligent sensor systems. 

The UFDC-1M-16 can easily integrate into digital environments with a minimum of external components. The UFDC-1M-16 can be controlled by an external microprocessor (slave mode) or work independently without an external controller (master mode). The modes's can be configured in both software and hardware. 
There are four variant ICs: UFDC-1, UFDC-1M-16, USTI and USTI-EXT .  The UFDC-1M-16 has a 32 times increased conversion speed over the UFDC-1.

This 2-channel Evaluation Board allows selection of the 16 frequency-time parameters measuring modes and one generation mode (for calibration purpose). Easy design of  various digital sensors and sensor systems including smart, self-adaptation and self-identification sensor. All existing frequency, period, duty-cycle, time interval, pulse-width modulated, pulse number and phase-shift output sensors and transducers can be directly interfaced to the evaluation board.

Connect TTL-compatible outputs sensors to the Evaluation Board and start measuring output frequency-time parameters and test the sensor systems functions The EVAL-UFDC-1M-16 evaluation board is supplied with free software.

The board interfaces via the serial RS232 port (or via USB adapter) to any personal computer running Windows. The set-up commands can be send and measurement results displayed with a Windows terminal program, LabView or by using the supplied software. The evaluation kit includes a CD with Terminal V1.9B and the Evaluation Board Software V1.14. Supply voltage 8..14V AC/DC The EVAL-UDFC-1 can also test the UFDC-1M-16.
